Looks we Love: Kerry Washington covers LA Magazine

She is breathing new life into a textured bob on this week's cover of LA Magazine.  The whole spread breathes a modern aesthetic to a time treasured hair classic.  To recreate Kerry's look we'd use Indi Remi by Bobbi Boss in 10" in Jet Black and then create the texture with razor.

Product Spotlight: Raquel Welch Spotlight Wig

Spotlight by Raquel Welch is by far our best selling wig of 2010!  Why we love it:  a natural lacefront hair line combined with an incredible cut delivers the most realistic and requested wig at all Sunny's locations.

If you haven't tried Raquel Welch wigs in the past few years...we have to say they are the best they have ever been.  The styling, the color dimension and naturalness of Raquel Welch wigs is leaving our other brands in the dust.

Product we Love: Denman Thermal Straightening Brush

Denman Thermo Ceramic Straightening Brush

We can't claim that we discovered this but a Sunny's Girl put us onto this miracle in a brush.  The Denman Thermal Ceramic Brush uses natural boar bristles to smooth unruly tresses.   Our Sunny's Girl uses it to straighten her Indian Hair and her hair is flawless.  She swears by using the Denman brush in front of her FHI Runway flatiron and all it takes is one pass to deliver silky smooth straight hair that isn't too heat damaged.

Celeb looks we Love: Beyonce on the Vogue Nippon

We love Beyonce on the cover of Japanese Vogue.  The hair especially.   We LOVE when Beyonce embraces her natural texture.  To achieve her look we'd recommend Bohyme Brazilian Wave in color 2/30 and set it on 1 1/2 inch flexible roller rods to create the textured yet controlled curls she is rocking on their cover.  To set the curls we'd use Curls Milkshake.

Like the River Salon's Breast Cancer Beauty Day

This past Sunday, Like the River Salon hosted a wonderful event pampering Breast Cancer Survivors at their gorgeous Inman Park Salon.  Sunny's Girls were in attendance to assist women in selecting wigs that were styled and customized by Stylists from Like the River Salon.

DIY Hair Extensions?

We'd like to invite all the Daily Candy Readers to become Sunny's Girls!  The staff at Daily Candy test drove the Lord & Cliff Clip In Extensions to see if they were as easy as we claimed.

Sunny's Staff matched the staff for color by an email consultation...

Kristin:  Kristen is a color #2 or dark brown.  We used the Lord & Cliff One Piece Clip In Hair Extension.  The One Piece is a layered set of extensions that are ready to clip in to offer a "curtain" of hair extensions.  They already come with subtle curls so that it has body and is ready to clip and go...  The One Piece is our featured item and regularly retails for $160 and is on sale for $130.

Meghan:
Meghan has a blend of highlights.  While it seems like her hair color is harder to match, it's actually super easy when you have a blend of colors.  Her color is a 6/27/8/16 and she has the Lord & Cliff Seven Pieces Clip In Extensions in 18".   The Seven Pieces retails for $100 for 14" and $130 for 18"

Mary:
Mary is a color #1B of off black. We used the Lord & Cliff Three Pieces Clip In hair extensions which is perfect for women who just want a little volume and not a whole set of extensions.  The Three Pieces retails for $64.99 for 12" and $74.99 for 14" and 18" $84.99

So... here's a few tips

1.  If you need color matching assistance:  Email photo consultations $5  Online Video Sessions $10.  Email: Color Consult Emails

2.  If you don't think clip in extensions are quite a DIY then visit the nearest Retail Locations for color matching assistance as well as Clip In Hair Extension tutorial.  Our staff will walk you through how to place and lightly your clip in extensions for a fee of course.

3. Add texture to the clip in extensions with either hot rollers or a curling wand.  It will make the extensions look more natural once they have a little wave or curl to them.  Very few people have stick straight hair so this always helps.

4. Use a skirt hanger to store your clip in extensions, this will keep them fresh and lock in the style.

5. One set of clip ins are generally enough for a complete head of hair extensions.

FHI Runway...A Miracle in the form of a Flat Iron

While we mostly sell hair & wigs, we always get requests for more information on our favorite products and tools for maintaining healthy hair and retaining Indian Hair.

The problem is that the products we recommend run the gamut from Brazilian Keratin Treatments to Virgin Coconut Oil.  So instead of running crazy around town looking for these products, we've created an Amazon Store with links to where to buy the Sunny's Girl Toolkit on Amazon.com

Tell us what you think... Are we missing anything?

And the Emmy for Best Hair goes to.... Sofia Vergara

As a huge Modern Family Fan...we must declare that not only is Sofia Vergara part of the best comedy on tv...but arguably the best hair on television.

To recreate Ms. Vergara's hair we'd suggest 8 ounces of Indian Hair Natural Wave in 22"  straightened with a tourmaline flat iron and curled with a 1 1/2"  curling iron

Hair Extension Tip: Don't cut the tracks

If you love your Indian Hair and want to keep reusing it here's one small money saving tip:  Don't cut the tracks or better yet before you sit in your stylist chair explain to them that you plan on reusing your hair extensions and you would like them to not cut the tracks.

Instead have them fold over the track when starting a new row of hair extensions. This will achieve two things:
1.  Less Shedding:  Every time when you cut the track you have shedding from the seams
2.  Easy to reuse:  When it's time to take out your hair extensions it will be much easier to wash, condition and put right back in

Change your Hair!

We all want to try the edgy new hairstyles all the celebrities are wearing, lucky for them they have their stylists on call for maintenance as well as they can easily change up their looks.

However, we've come up with a couple tips and tricks you can try to change your life without changing your own hair.

For short edgy cuts:
Use Sensationnel 27 pieces to create a custom wig, the hair is short so you won't have much cutting to do and you can add color to front like our girl Rihanna.
You could also just purchase a Fashion wig, they are really affordable; one of our favorites at Sunny's is Bobbi Boss' Vivi.

For Asymetrical Cuts/Bobs:
If you want something more long term , try sewing in more affordable hair like Bohyme Textured Smooth or Bohyme Silky Straight and have your stylist use a closure piece so that none of your hair is out- that way you can cut and use as much heat and product without any damage to your own hair.

If you're just trying to have fun for one night try a fashion wig, they are low cost, low maintenance and really fun to just let loose in.

For Long Lengths or  Color:
Experiment with brands like Bohyme, Indi Remy, Black Diamond or Sensationel Goddess since they are slightly more affordable than Indian hair. If you are a little gun shy you can always use clip in extensions to flirt with longer hair before making the commitment.

Before you make the commitment and change your own hair permanently, try these out and if you don't like it then you can take it out and your own hair will be the way you had it! But if you do like it, preserve your hair and enjoy your new look.....

Change your life and change the hair that you paid for!!

Hair Extension Tip: Nylon Coated Thread vs. Cotton Thread

Heavy Duty Cotton Thread - Black
We love nylon coated or wax coated thread for sew in extensions.  The thread is much thinner and strong than traditional cotton thread.  This ensures that you won't have any tracks that loosen over time.   We love it love it!  Make sure to ask your stylist if she is using wax coated or cotton thread!

Product Spotlight: Indi Remy by Bobbi Boss

Everyone knows we sell Bohyme and Indian Hair...but we have to say the sleeper is Indi Remi by Bobbi Boss. While the packaging claims that it is Virgin Hair...it really isn't.  But if you are looking a good quality textured Remy Hair...this just might be your cup of tea.  Minimal shedding and a natural looking texture qualify Bobbi Boss Indi Remy for our Product Spotlight.

Working out with your Weave

We heard the best news we have heard in years the other day.  Two women were in our Atlanta store and we overheard the following:

" My friend just got this Indian Hair months ago and she lost 140 pounds."

      " How?"

" She started working out, she got a full head weave with the Curly Indian Hair and she just started shedding the weight."

It was music to our ears.  Hair extensions really can change your hair...change your life.  By finding a low maintenance style that allows women to get on the treadmill, balance ball or swim you can transform your body and health.

  • If you are looking to shed some weight or meet your fitness goals we definitely recommend Curly Indian Hair with a full head sew in.  This allows all of your hair to be gently sewn away and with a textured bob with soft bangs you can push yourself to the limit and not worry about ruining your hairstyle.
  • For ladies who can't quite commit to a full head sew in, consider getting a weave with Indian Hair that is the same length or a little longer than your hair with just a 1/4 inch of hair left out along the perimeter and at the crown.
  • If you must leave more hair out than you should consider the latest craze of Brazilian Keratin Treatment.  This frizz reducing fortifying treatment allows for stronger hair that won't frizz at the first sign of sweat or water without permanently altering the hair structure.  BKT also protects the hair in the braids while you are working out.

The Hills.... A Look We Loved for Years

It's been a looked we loved watching evolve over the years.  As huge fans of Laguna Beach and on and off again fans of The HillsBut parting is such sweet sorrow we are going to miss the sometimes vapid yet entertaining fun that The Hills has offered over the past years.

So in honor of the Series Finale we declare last night a Look We Love.  We especially like Lauren's textured ponytail.  To achieve Lauren's look we'd recommend using her fave method of hair extensions, Skin Weft hair gathered into a low pony.  We'd use a 1" curling iron to make disheveled waves.
